RIDGELEY, W.Va. — Martha Mae Maphis Houdersheldt, 85, of Ridgeley, went to be
with the Lord on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at the Western Maryland Regional
Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
Born on May 20, 1925, in Purgitsville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ethel Shoemaker Parsons and her step-father, who raised her, the late Columbus Bud Parsons. Mrs. Houdersheldt was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank D. Houdersheldt; infant son Franklin D. Houdersheldt; one infant great-grandson, Jonathan Scott Wigger; two half-brothers Paul Maphis and Fred Parsons; three half-sisters, Peggy Cosner, Maxine Akers and Evelyn Baron; one step-sister, Estella Kesner; two step-brothers, Ernest Parsons and John Bill Parsons.
Mrs. Houdersheldt was a member of the South Cumberland Assembly of God Church on Elder Street and the Busy Bees. In her younger years, she taught Sunday school. She was a homemaker and cleaned many houses for many families. She loved spending time with her family, fishing, and attending family reunions. She was devoted to the Lord.
Surviving are her two daughters, Saundra Comer and husband Harry of Englewood Fla., Sue Ann Goss and husband Bill of Cumberland; one son, Ivan Houdersheldt and wife Sarah of Short Gap, W.Va.; four granddaughters, Lesa Wigger and husband John, Jamie Kincaid and husband Randy, Johnna Steed and husband Barry, Amanda Evans and husband Joe; two grandsons, Eric Houdersheldt, William Brent Goss and wife Jen; three great-granddaughters, Jade Kincaid, Catrina Evans, Miley Goss; three great-grandsons, Nathan Wigger and wife Laura, Kristofer Steed and Joey Evans; one great-great grandson, Silas Wigger; two step- brothers, Paul Parsons and June Parsons.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A. 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (www.scarpellifuneralhomes.com) on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the South Cumberland Assembly of God Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gene Riffey officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be Abe Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Rich Parsons, Dave Parsons, Bill Parsons, Bill Whitescarver, Carl Houdersheldt, Craig Houdersheldt, Andy Day, Bobby Houdersheldt, and David Hendricks.
