ABOUT

The Abe Cemetery is located on the Old Furnace Road in Mineral County, West Virginia between Wiley Ford and Short Gap. It is on the right,  about 1.2 miles from the intersection of Route 28. This cemetery property is part of the original Abe Family farm which consisted of over 400 acres.
When you enter the cemetery a roadway makes a complete circle around the top level area. The cemetery is basically divided into three distinct groups of graves. The first we will call "Group A" and is the group within the circle of the roadway. The second we will call "Group B" and is to the left outside the roadway. It encompasses the complete left side of the cemetery and continues across the back of the cemetery outside of the roadway. The third we will call "Group C" and is a small cluster in the right front corner of the cemetery outside the roadway. See the diagram of the cemetery.
The graves are laid out left to right and from front to back when facing the rear from the front entrance. The grave locations will each be recorded here by a code I.D.

For example: William Edward Abe is buried at "A-1-1" meaning his grave is located at:
Group A (the group within the roadway)
Row 1 (counted from the front to the back of the cemetery)
Grave 1 (counted from the left to the right in the row).

These I.D. codes are for actual marked graves found in the cemetery. There are no records for actual grave plots used or unused so this will make it easier for someone to locate a grave when visiting the cemetery. As a result these I.D. codes could change from time to time as new graves are added to the cemetery.
At the present time there are 419 graves posted to this site. All of these have some form of marker.
For those who can't physically make it to the cemetery I hope that this site will be the next best thing for you.
One final note..... there are a number of headstones listed here that are for individuals still living. If you have any additions or corrections, please contact me.
