The following graves within the Abe Cemetery are at this time unknown individuals. I hope by featuring each of them here on this separate page that someone out there will be able to identify them and their families and ultimately become a true memorial for each.
Rosalie Higgs
To the right of a marker for four infant children of A. J. and Lacy Ann (Abe) Whitacre sits a small poured concrete stone with the inscription written by hand when the concrete was just starting to firm up. Time and the elements has begun to destroy the marker as the surface has begun to flake off. It appears that some repair was attempted at one time but did not hold.
The name "Rosalie Higgs" is plainly visible but little else. At the bottom right, part of a year date "192x" also visible. There seems to be no clues in the cemetery as to who this individual is.
Bits and pieces of records have been uncovered that may or may not have a bearing in who this person is. A death record and a death certificate have been found for a Rosalie Higgs that lived in Ridgeley, Mineral County, WV. This individual was a three year old child that died of Bronchial Pneumonia. Her birth in these records is August 25, 1926. Death is listed as February 6, 1929. The child was born in West Virginia to Casper Joseph and Katie (Thompson) Higgs.
Who Am I and Are You One of My Family??? The search is on. Can you help???
Unknown
To the right of Rosalie Higgs is another thin slab of concrete with no markings at all. There are no clues in the cemetery that would help to the identity of this person. This is the last stone in the row.
