FORT ASHBY, W.VA. - Charles F. Smith, 88, of Fort Ashby, W. Va., died Monday, July 27, 2009, at the Dawnview Center.
Born May 31, 1921, in Genesseo, Ill., he was the son of the late Joe L. and Ule Florence (Whittle) Smith. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Charles Smith and Melvin Smith and Robert Barnes who was like a son to him.
Mr. Smith was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Force.
Mr. Smith was retired from Alleghany Power, where he had worked in the powerhouse.
He was a member of Berean Independent Baptist Church, Fort Ashby, and American Legion Post 41, Keyser.
Survivers include his wife, Mildred (Abe) Smith; one daughter, Sherri L. Wilson and husband Dwayne, of Fort Ashby, W. Va.; one son, Larrie C. Smith and wife Teresa, of Newville, Pa.; two brothers, Harold M. Smith, of Wiscasset, Maine and Leslie W. Smith, of Edgecomb, Maine; five grandchildren, Norman Smith, Cinnamon Celise, and husband Venton, Rebekah Jenson, and husband Andrew, Nicholas Wilson, and Melissa Wilson adn fiance William Weisenmiller; and seven graet-grandchildren, Caitlyn and cailey Cantrell, Charles and Patrick Smith, and Micah, Jaan, and Ethan Jenson.
Friends will be recirved at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, (1888-724-2251) on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Richard Riley officiating.
Interment will be in Abe Cemetery, with military honors being conducted by Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

W.Va. — Mildred Ann (Abe) Smith, 86, of Fort Ashby, went home to be with the
Lord and reunited with her husband, Charles, on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at The
Dawnview Center.
Born Oct. 2, 1926 in Fort Ashby, she was the daughter of the late Norman Elmer Abe and Lucy Frances (Malone) Abe.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Smith; two sons Charles Smith and Melvin L. Smith; four brothers, Howard Abe, Claude Abe, Charles Abe, and Carl Abe; and two sisters Hazel Irene Wagoner and Dorothy Spencer.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and had also done alterations work for The Manhattan and Graff’s Clothing Stores.
As a child, she grew up in the Old Furnace Church of the Brethren. She was a member of Berean Independent Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Sherri L. Wilson and husband Dwayne, Fort Ashby; her son, Larrie C. Smith and wife Teresa, Newville, Pa.; grandchildren, Norman Smith, Cinnamon Celise and husband Venton, Rebecca Jensen and husband Andrew, Nicholas Wilson, Melissa Weisenmiller and husband William; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Cailey Cantrell, Charles and Patrick Smith, Micah, Jaan, and Ethan Jensen, Quinn L. Weisenmiller; a great-grandson to be born in September; and two sisters, Letha Self, Fort Ashby and Levauda Pownell, Keyser, W.Va.

The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Richard Riley officiating.
